Drinking in Public… in Canada!

February 2, 2011

I’ve ran into a few people from France who casually take a swig of alcohol in public. Yikes! Do I have to really ruin the party and tell them it’s not allowed before someone else does and takes them to jail!?

Today I warned a guy in the subway not to drink his wine in the subway, no matter how fancy.

“Not outside man!”

“But we are in the subway!”

“But it’s public!”

“I’m not actually drinking any of it. This is really good wine! Do you want some?”

He began to explain just how fine the wine is before he left the metro. He even gladly presented the bottle for this blog.

I hope he finished it sans problems. I wish I could freely do whatever I want without a worry, stress, anxiety and constantly having to look around!

So, a word of advice to my European readers: put it in a plastic bag or a flask so you won’t get hassled!

Soup Party!

February 2, 2011

Every week my friend hosts a soup party. I must say it’s a great way to deal with the odds and ends in our kitchen!

It has become a weekly tradition and a sort of glue to keep a circle of cool people together.

Think of it as a pot luck but more casual and more spice. You really never know what your going to eat and there is no real preparation required!

Always At Dora’s

February 2, 2011

On a Saturday in Toronto, I love spending the afternoons at Dora’s! Celtic session, Irish staff, charming decor and drinks all combined can easily take your imagination away to a land of unicorns and leprechauns.

In case some of you regulars don’t already know, the session is no longer on Sundays. So yea, it’s on Saturdays! Even better for us working folks!

Here is a pic of me with the music gang a few months ago.

Winter in Vieux-Port Montreal

January 13, 2011

Allo,

Here’s a recent picture of me at Old Montreal taken by Shoshana Ruttner. She is a really cool photographer! I highly recommend her! She made me feel at ease, she found a way to make conversation with a weirdo like me.

So what was going through my head at this time of life? Music, money, power, love, food, aesthetics.  I’m recording some songs, and I think I’ll make this the pic that goes with it. It seems like a very-me kinda photo in one of my favourite places on Earth, Old Montreal.

My Rescue Experience Featured on CBC Radio!

December 18, 2010

Last summer I was at the bus stop way late at night when some total creepy dude was staring me down. I’m usually the only woman at the late night bus stop so I was expecting some attention like that, but man was this dude ever creepy. I thought I was overreacting to his stares, but when he followed me out the bus I knew it was bad news. It took a turn for the worse when he started a conversation with me when we were all alone. I was freakin’ terrified. I had no idea where to go, what to say or what to do! I was in the middle of the nowhere suburbs Scarborough at 3 am! You could imagine how relieved I was when this total teenaged stranger rushed to my rescue! You can hear the full story on this week’s edition of Definitely Not the Opera on CBC.

I didn’t know how to repay him, so I added him on Facebook to wait for an opportunity! He turns out to be a really cool actor so in the meantime I’ll do a proud plug of my new friend Ryan Drummond!

Listen to this week’s edition of Definitely Not The Opera on CBC.
