It Probably Didn’t Happen For A Reason

June 7, 2010

There was a guy that had a crush on me when I was in high school, let’s call him, “H”. I kinda liked him too (at the time). But timing was really bad, and I was trapped with someone else.

I felt bad, because I was convinced “H” and I would have made such a great couple. We got along great, we lived in the same neighbourhood, we liked the same music (at the time) and he was so nice (to me)! He filmed my favourite shows, bought things he thought I would like, and hung out with me lots. But he had a bit of a temper. Today I saw him by coincidence in the subway yelling at someone. I ran as fast as I could, I’m sooo glad that it was not me over there he was yelling at. I’m through with guys who like to make spectacles in public… not my scene!

On A Serious Note – Filming What’s Personal

June 6, 2010

Last week, I ran into a bit of an obstacle on my way home, the bus completely parked. There had been a deadly accident. The road was completely closed.

I got out of the bus figuring that it was faster to walk to the subway, but I stopped to observe the scene. Shards of glass everywhere, a disfigured car on an angle with it’s fully blown up air bags, and blood splattered around. The story was clear. I’m reminded why I would never buy a car. I took a picture to make sure I would remember.

A little girl behind me asked her mom why I took a picture.

It reminded me of one class I took in Communication Ethics. Our teacher showed us a documentary on foreign reporters. A woman who lost her son in a bombing totally lost it on the camera man who was filming her while she was loudly grieving. It’s intrusive, invasive and inconsiderate to the victims. But in the grand scheme of things, these intimate recordings can really drive the point home.

I can present statistics and argue that this car accident among many car accidents are part of a growing reality we face in car culture, suburban sprawl, and grid lock, and you can disagree. Or I can show you this picture and something else is told.

What a great idea!

June 5, 2010

I was at the grocery store the other day and was completely floored by this genius invention! A waffle cup for ice cream!

Why should one choose between cup or cone? Why not both? And would you believe these “Waffle Bowls” were on sale? I didn’t buy one because I didn’t have room in my bag, but I will be sure to purchase a few boxes in my next trip to the grocery store, whether it’s on sale or not.

Would you also believe they were of the President’s Choice brand? I always liked that Galen Weston, he seems like an innovative guy whose all about doing the right thing. He puts emphasis in nutrition, supporting local farmers, and he acts in his own commercials. He even bravely does them in his wobbly French. Love the guy!
