Can you identify this insect?

July 31, 2010

Hello Readers,

I need to pool in your entomological expertise in helping me identify this insect depicted in the photograph. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. It is a furry little yellow thing with multiple little legs and distinctively long black antennas. It was found on a tent screen at Bowmanville Mosport race track a few weeks ago (don’t ask me what I was doing there!).

If you can help identify this, let me know!

Finding Information

July 20, 2010

I totally forgot a deadline with the OSAP mafia, and it only occured to me when I was in the bus.  There was no choice but to make the phone call while I remembered.

Unfortunately I didn’t have their number handy on me, so I texted a few people to see if they were in front of a computer to look it up online. I didn’t get a response right away and I didn’t feel like wasting money on the operator so I texted a completely random number…

This is how the conversation went:

Me:

Can u find the number for osap?

647-***-****:

Who is this?

Me:

Vanessa. Are you in front of a computer? can u just find the number?

647-***-****:

I don’t know you are. Sorry.

Me:

How does that have anything to do with finding a number? (at this point, someone else already text me the number)

I found it anyway. Thanks.

647-***-****:

I’m in cottage country. No computer.

The Adventures of Bessarion Station

July 16, 2010

I remember a guy who was irritated with Bessarion Station. According to him, it’s the most useless station to have been built. No one is ever there. Today as I was passing by it, I noticed the lights were dimmed. It might be because the TTC figured that it was a waste of money to keep an empty space void of people to be fully lit.

I took this picture of the platform at Bessarion during rush hour on my way to Ikea.

Bessarion isn’t totally useless though. It will be soon a convenient station for many new inhabitants of the condo being built nearby and other development projects in the neighbourhood.

Bessarion station is the closest station to an Ikea in Toronto. But it’s still a bit of a pain to walk there, especially if you are carrying a whole lot of new furniture.   Though there is a shuttle bus service that drives shoppers to the subway entrance of Leslie, but it didn’t occur to me at the time. It’s not really advertised for some reason.

Anyway, as you walk towards Ikea, there is a sign that directs pedestrian to a special entrance… Unfortunately, as I came to learn, that entrance is closed. It took some walking, but I eventually got inside.

When Books Are Cool!

July 6, 2010

Here is a neat way for your books to collect dust. The Toronto Public Reference Library had a pile of books on display in what appears to be shaped like a boot… you decide.

I like how they coordinated the colours together!

Banana Republic forgets ‘u’ again!

July 5, 2010

I wrote a letter to Banana Republic about their front display months ago that included the word “Colour” without the letter “U”. Jennie from Banana Republic’s customer service reassured me she didn’t mean to cause any offence and that the marketing team will look into it. The display was up until the end of the season and I didn’t think about it again until today.

This time it was with the word “Favourite”!

I spent an unspeakable amount on  Banana Republic clothes, so this error really bugs me! Not to mention that I have to walk by this place everyday.

So this is what I wrote to their customer service:

Dear Banana Republic,

It seems that my complaint on your American spelling tendencies on your front display stores in Canada has yet to be acknowledged.

The previous display that spelled out the word “color”, which should have been “colour”, has been gone, but a new display is in BP’s Canadian front display, this time with the word “Favorite” which should be “Favourite”.

Please have this error corrected along with any other grammatical errors in the Canadian branch. Your lack of consideration to Canadian spelling shows how much you respect your Canadian customers.

Once again, I will be posting this story on my blog as a sort of impetus for you to remedy this eye sore.

-v

Maybe they will be quick to fix it- I’m being optimistic. You can judge yourself- you can read how my previous correspondence with Banana Republic was like by clicking here.
