National Post Doesn’t Care About Our National Parks!

June 2, 2013

Ever since the Globe and Mail imposed a subscription fee for their online articles, I begrudgingly made the switch to National Post, even though it gives me stomach aches. Take this article for example:

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/05/31/mountain-of-change-in-store-as-canadas-national-parks-aim-to-attract-mass-tourism/

They delivered the story on mass construction on Canada’s perserved parks as great news! A victory even. There are budget cuts, they need more revenu, so now there will be more “commercial or mass-tourism friendly amenities” in our National Parks! Now us hardworking tax payers can actually enjoy the wildlife we’ve been paying to perserve! Can any thinking be so narrow? How can we “enjoy” the parks when you just said that there will be “commercial” amenities? Could that mean more wal marts? The writer didn’t expand on that point. We just heard about the cool things that will happen like a lift on the ban for hang-gliding. Did she explain why there was a ban in the first place?

This quote really sickened me:

“Parks are for people, it’s not a preserve,…Canadians pay a lot of money in taxes to support those parks and they should be open and accessible to all Canadians.”

Ya, the thing is, those parks are perserved because they are part of an eco system that enables humans to live and that kinda includes trees, and the animals, etc. I know this scientifically proven concept is beyond the scope of Harper fans. Yes, so lets build a capitalist friendly hot spot, cut down trees, shoot down bears, remove the wildlife from their homes, I’m sure they will figure out a way to adapt! The rocky’s will become a nice deserted wasteland that we can later on use to drill for some oil!

So what’s the logic here? Lets “enjoy” nature while its here, but let’s not do anything to “perserve” it?

Here is a suggestion, how about you enjoy the land you already live on. Chances are it used to be a lush green paradise too. What’s stopping you from getting back there? With the advances in technology, there is no excuse. We need to cut through bureaucracy and the politics and find ways to incorporate clean technology in our day to day lives so that we can live harmoniously with nature. We need to have an electric communal transit system, with a focus on a pedestrian oriented community. We could even start with something simple such as sacrificing a parking spot, remove some concrete and plant a tree or two and composting. Then there is getting the government to clean the lakes, make business accountable for pollution.

Humans have been living in nature for most of its existence. We have a yearning for nature in our day-to-day lives. We are programmed for it. Bringing green back into our lives is not a fad, its a human need. And we need to restore it.

We can’t even maintain the beauty of the land we already invaded, why should we invade more? Is there any place in Canada that can be spared from cigarette butts and empty Tim Horton cups?

Tell Stephen Harper To Stop Wasting Money on the Action Plan Ads!

February 20, 2013

Hey guys!

I started this petition. Please sign it!

https://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/stephen-harper-stop-wasting-money-on-the-action-plan-ads

Background:

Over tens of millions of dollars have been spent in “Economic Action Plan” ads since 2009. The Finance department alone spent over $25 million. Natural Resources Canada has budgeted $9 million in the current 2012-13 fiscal year for ads. This is on top of the tens of millions of ad spending by other departments.

We are growing tired of these TV, radio, print and Internet ads. We got the point.

“They don’t reflect people’s daily experience. And at a time when the government says it wants to be fiscally prudent, it’s wasting huge sums of money on these ads for projects that have already been long finished. What is the point?” – MP Peggy Nash

The frivolous spending doesn’t stop there. The government spent $300,000 on polling firms just to find out how Canadians feel about these ads. They don’t need to hire a firm to know that Canadians feel that this is “propaganda” and “a waste of money”. Let this petition be a bold indicator as to how Canadians really feel about these ads.

Sneak Preview Of New Song

January 9, 2013

Hello,

So like I mentioned before, I will be recording original songs for a new album.

Here is a preview of one of the songs I tried out on the crowd at Ye Olde Orchard Jam yesterday! And if any musicians are reading this, this pub is a great place to play. The host, Mike Hand, was very cheerful! Young crowd, nice location, and friendly people. And unlike most open mics in Montreal, there were no comedians! So I will be going there more often. : )

My Small Steps in Defeating Capitalism

January 7, 2013

I am just one person. But change starts with one person.

This is how one person is defeating capitalism this year:

I am vermicomposting. This has so many benefits! Up to 40% of my garbage will now be transformed into fertile soil that will be used for my herb garden. How does this have to do with capitalism? Well, for one thing, I won’t need to buy herbs and soil. But in the grand scheme of things, I will contribute less to garbage pick ups and landfill expenses that our tax money is paying for. I am giving the budget more room to pay for meaningful things like, healthcare and education! All our actions have an impact.

I will make vermicomposting bins for others. The worms in the bin can double their population every 3-4 months. They will stop breeding when the bin is full. But I won’t let it get there. If I make a new bin for someone every 3-4 months, and they in turn make a new bin for others, and so on, then something significant would have happened. I did the math. If I follow this program, in 2013 I can prevent 156 litres of garbage from going to the landfills. In 2014, 2560 litres of garbage will be prevented from going to the landfills. I will write a blog post about this new program I made for myself..

I will not buy any new clothes. I feel like I have accumulated enough since I grown into a full size adult, which has been eight years or so.

I will continue to live like a stoic. And it’s not so bad! I don’t own a car. I don’t have cable. I don’t have TV. I pay very low rent, and very rarely, if at all, buy alcohol. Going to music jams and living in a vibrant neighbourhood and eating good food is what makes my day to day life fun.

I will avoid eating at restaurants. It’s really hard, but if I watch Zietgiest once a week, I am sure I will have the motivation and develop the discipline.

I will bring awareness. I am publishing this blog. Also, in my upcoming album, I will have many songs about debt slavery and human trafficking.

Bonus:

I will attend at least five protests this year.

I will learn more about independant energy.

I will learn more about hydroponic farming. I will learn more about vertical hydroponic farms.

I will read more about how others are living off-grid.

Now will the world be a magical place in 2014?
