Yea, Ottawa is Awesome!

June 17, 2010

I had such a blast in Ottawa! I visited my cousin last weekend and had a lot of fun. We started off the Saturday with a bike ride down the Rideau canal.

Next: We went to the Byward market where I got to check out their local designers.

What I learned: There is no shortage of interesting jewelry at the Byward market!

What I did: I bought some earrings!

Then:  We went to a bar to watch the soccer game, and then a night club.

A moment.

1. I went to my favourite bohemian grocery store, the Big Carrot.

2. I noticed a sign I don’t see at the other grocery stores, “Shoes Required”. I can only imagine what happened that they were compelled to state their shoe policies clearly at the door.

On my 23rd bday, a peculiar man scribbled my portrait into his notebook. He promised he would mail it to me, and never did. I e-mailed him, and he promised he would have it, then he said he lost it.

I saw him two days ago and he quickly scribbled this and gave it to me.

Check it out!

What a great idea!

I was at the grocery store the other day and was completely floored by this genius invention! A waffle cup for ice cream!

Why should one choose between cup or cone? Why not both? And would you believe these “Waffle Bowls” were on sale? I didn’t buy one because I didn’t have room in my bag, but I will be sure to purchase a few boxes in my next trip to the grocery store, whether it’s on sale or not.

Would you also believe they were of the President’s Choice brand? I always liked that Galen Weston, he seems like an innovative guy whose all about doing the right thing. He puts emphasis in nutrition, supporting local farmers, and he acts in his own commercials. He even bravely does them in his wobbly French. Love the guy!

Something funny that happened.

So in my recent trip to Montreal, I paid an old friend a visit, let’s call him “K”. K is exactly my age and he is well into med school. He is already administrating medical procedures on people! Woah.

We sat on a park bench while I was asking him questions like, “How do you deal with the blood?”
“Don’t you get nauseated?”
“Aren’t you scared of making a mistake?”
“Isn’t this all stressful?”

K was very humble as he kept on playing it off like it wasn’t a big deal. “It’s not hard, it’s okay, you get used to it,” etc.

A guy who had been listening in to our conversation from another park bench got up and scoffed out loud, “I am an artist and I make $80, 000 a year!”
